Grief Recovery® FAQs
What is the Grief Recovery Program?
The Grief Recovery Program is an eight-week, closed-group experience designed to help participants explore unresolved grief in a safe, supportive, and structured environment. Through guided exercises, meaningful discussion, and reflection, you'll gain practical tools to help you move toward greater peace while continuing to honor the people and experiences you've lost.
What kinds of loss does this program address?
Grief isn't limited to the death of a loved one.
This program welcomes individuals grieving many different types of loss, including:
Death of a loved one
Divorce or the end of a relationship
Miscarriage or infertility
Loss of health or a medical diagnosis
Loss of identity or purpose
Retirement or career changes
Empty nest
Estrangement
Pet loss
Life transitions
Other significant losses
What if my grief feels very specific to my situation?
You may be surprised to learn that almost everyone who joins the Grief Recovery® Program feels this way.
Over the past 20 years of specializing in grief and loss, I've found that while people often come because of one specific loss—a spouse, parent, child, sibling, best friend, divorce, infertility, career, or health diagnosis—they frequently discover grief has quietly or loudly touched many areas of their lives.
Together, we often uncover losses such as:
A loss of identity
A loss of hope
A loss of dreams for the future
A loss of safety or security
A loss of trust
A loss of confidence
A loss of purpose
A loss of normalcy
A loss of independence
A loss of traditions or family roles
A loss of the life you imagined
While every person's story is unique, the emotions that accompany grief are often more universal than we realize. One of the most healing parts of this program is discovering that you're not as alone as you may feel.
If you're wondering whether your situation is a good fit, I'd love to talk with you. Schedule a complimentary discovery call, and together we'll explore your goals, answer your questions, and determine whether the Grief Recovery® Program is the right next step for you.
Do I have to share my story?
No.
You are always invited—but never required—to share. Many participants find comfort simply listening until they feel ready to contribute. You are encouraged to participate at the pace that feels right for you.
What if I cry?
Tears are welcome here.
Grief is a natural response to loss, and emotions often arise throughout the healing process. You will be met with compassion—not judgment.
What if my loss happened years ago?
You are welcome.
Many people discover that grief can remain unresolved for years—even decades. Healing has no expiration date.
What if my loss is very recent?
Every person's grief journey is different.
During your complimentary consultation, we'll discuss whether this program is the right fit for where you are in your healing journey.
Is this group therapy?
Yes. This is a therapist-led psychotherapy group facilitated by a Licensed Professional Counselor. The program includes education, discussion, guided exercises, and therapeutic support designed to help participants process grief in a structured group setting.
How is this different from the Community Grief Circle?
The Community Grief Circle is an ongoing virtual gathering designed to bring people together through connection, grief education, and shared experiences. Each gathering features a grief-related topic, practical insights, guided discussion, and an opportunity to connect with others who understand the many ways loss can impact our lives.
The Grief Recovery Program is a closed eight-week therapeutic experience that follows a structured curriculum. It is an intimate group of no more than 12. Participants begin and end the journey together and complete guided exercises between sessions.
Will there be homework?
Yes—but think of it as healing work rather than homework.
Between sessions, you'll complete gentle reflection exercises designed to deepen your understanding of grief and support your healing. Many participants find these activities to be one of the most meaningful parts of the program.
Do I have to attend every session?
Because this is a closed group, regular attendance is strongly encouraged. Each session builds upon the previous one, and your presence contributes to both your own healing and the trust that develops within the group. Dates are listed on the Group page. Missing two sessions is ok.
Is my information confidential?
Yes.
All participants agree to maintain the confidentiality of personal information shared within the group. While confidentiality cannot be absolutely guaranteed in any group setting, creating a safe and respectful environment is one of our highest priorities.
Is this program right for me?
If you're unsure, let's talk.
Before joining, you'll have a complimentary phone consultation with Angela to discuss your goals, answer questions, and determine whether the Grief Recovery Program is the best fit for your needs.
How do I get started?
Complete the inquiry form, and Angela will contact you to schedule a complimentary consultation. Together, you'll explore whether this program is the right next step in your healing journey.
Grief Community Circle FAQs
What is the Community Grief Circle?
The Community Grief Circle is a virtual gathering that combines grief education, guided discussion, and supportive connection. Each session explores a different grief-related topic and provides a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and connect with others who understand the many ways grief can impact our lives.
Is this group therapy?
No.
The Community Grief Circle is not psychotherapy. It is an educational and supportive community designed to provide grief-related information, meaningful conversation, and connection with others. While many people find the experience comforting and healing, it is not a substitute for individual therapy or mental health treatment.
Who is the Community Grief Circle for?
The Circle is open to adults navigating any type of loss, including:
The death of a loved one
Divorce or the end of a relationship
Miscarriage or infertility
Loss of health
Loss of identity or purpose
Career or retirement transitions
Empty nest
Estrangement
Pet loss
Other significant life changes
If you're grieving and looking for connection, you're welcome here.
Do I have to attend every meeting?
No.
The Community Grief Circle is designed to be flexible. Each gathering focuses on a different topic, so you're welcome to attend the sessions that are most meaningful to you.
Do I have to share?
Not at all.
Sharing is always optional. Many participants choose to simply listen during their first few gatherings, while others find comfort in sharing their experiences. You're encouraged to participate in whatever way feels most comfortable for you.
What can I expect during a typical gathering?
Each Community Grief Circle includes:
A brief educational topic related to grief
Guided discussion and reflection
Opportunities to connect with others
Practical coping strategies and resources
A compassionate, judgment-free environment
Every gathering is designed to leave you feeling supported, encouraged, and a little less alone.
What if my loss happened years ago?
You're welcome.
Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and many people find comfort in connecting with others long after a significant loss.
What if my loss is recent?
You're welcome here, too.
Whether your loss occurred weeks ago or many years ago, the Community Grief Circle offers a compassionate space to connect with others who understand.
Is everything confidential?
Participants are asked to respect the privacy of everyone in the group by keeping personal stories shared during the Circle confidential. While confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in a community setting, creating a safe and respectful environment is one of our highest priorities.
How is the Community Grief Circle different from the Grief Recovery Program?
The Community Grief Circle is an ongoing educational and supportive gathering.
The Grief Recovery Program is a closed eight-week experience with a structured curriculum, guided exercises, and the same participants meeting together each week. It offers a deeper exploration of unresolved grief and requires a commitment to the full program.
Is the Community Grief Circle right for me?
If you're looking for connection, encouragement, practical grief education, and the opportunity to learn alongside others, the Community Grief Circle may be a wonderful place to begin.
If you're looking for individualized therapeutic support or more intensive grief work, the Grief Recovery Program or individual psychotherapy may be a better fit.
